THIS WEEK: Meeting on Street Safety Improvements for Franklin Ave on Wednesday (2/18)

This coming Wednesday, Jersey City’s Department of Infrastructure will host a meeting on improvements to Franklin Avenue, which is funded by the New Jersey Department of Transportation Bikeways Grant program.

For background, there was a two-way protected bike lane demonstration project back in the summer 2024, extending along Franklin Ave and Manhattan Ave, from Palisade Ave to Summit Ave. In March of last year, the Council voted to approve a $162,000 engineering grant to make a pared-down version of the bike lane permanent [Hudson County View]. The proposed protected bike lane now stretches only along Franklin Ave from Palisade Ave to Central Ave plus a one-block section of Central Ave between Franklin Ave and Manhattan Ave, with one-way conversion along the length of Franklin Ave.

The meeting will be held at P.S. 8 (96 Franklin Street) and is hosted by the offices of Councilman Tom Zuppa, Councilman Jake Ephros, and the Department of Infrastructure. Doors open to the public at 7:00 p.m.
